A Daughter’s Victory, A Family’s Pride: Parents Receive Pearlwood Best Actress Award as Tatiana Ursula Sits Her O-Level Exams

-PEARLWOOD NEWS & UPDATES | 19 OCTOBER 2026

At the Pearlwood Film Awards 2026, one of the evening’s most touching moments was not simply the announcement of a winner, but the sight of proud parents and a teacher standing in for a young actress whose education had to come first.

KAMPALA, UGANDA — When Tatiana Ursula, a student of Trinity College Nabbingo, was announced as the Best Actress of the Year 2026 at the Pearlwood Film Awards Night Gala on 14th October 2026 at the National Theatre, Kampala, she was not present to receive her award.

Instead, Tatiana was attending to another important milestone in her young life: her Uganda Certificate of Education (O-Level) final examinations.

But her achievement did not go uncelebrated.

Standing proudly on her behalf were her father, Mr. Magandazi Vincent, her mother, Mrs. Namale Prossy Magandazi, and her teacher, Ms. Kimera Rita. Together, they received the prestigious accolade presented by Mr. Kenneth Otim of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).

It was a moment that spoke volumes about the role of parents, teachers and schools in nurturing Uganda’s next generation of creative talent.

When Parents Stand Behind Their Children’s Dreams

In an industry where young people’s artistic ambitions are sometimes misunderstood or viewed as distractions from academic achievement, the presence of Tatiana’s parents sent a powerful message.

A child should not have to choose between education and talent. With the right support, both can flourish.

Tatiana’s parents did more than collect a trophy. By standing on that stage, they publicly affirmed that their daughter’s creativity matters, that her achievements deserve recognition and that her academic responsibilities remain equally important.

Their presence alongside Ms. Kimera Rita also reflected the valuable relationship between the home and the school in developing well-rounded young people.

At Pearlwood, we believe that the future of Uganda’s film industry begins with families and educational institutions that recognise creativity as a legitimate pathway for personal development, cultural expression and future employment.

Tatiana’s story is a beautiful example of that partnership.

From Trinity College Nabbingo to Best Actress of the Year

Tatiana earned her nomination through her leading performance in Sunset at Dawn, a film produced through the participation of Trinity College Nabbingo in the Pearlwood Film Awards 2026.

Her performance distinguished her among the young actresses competing for one of the year’s most celebrated awards.

The competition was designed to recognise more than popularity alone. It combined audience participation with nominees’ debate performances and jury assessment, encouraging young actors to demonstrate both their artistic abilities and their understanding of the wider film industry.

Tatiana’s success is also an invitation to Ugandan audiences to discover the talent behind the award.

By watching original Ugandan films through legitimate distribution platforms, audiences do more than enjoy a story. They contribute to a growing film market that can reward creativity, encourage new productions and open opportunities for emerging filmmakers.

More Than an Award: A Lesson for Uganda’s Parents and Schools

The Pearlwood Film Awards 2026 were celebrated under the theme “The Rising Pearl: Igniting the Next Generation of African Storytellers.”

Tatiana’s achievement demonstrates precisely why the initiative matters.

When schools encourage filmmaking, students discover talents that may otherwise remain hidden. When parents support those talents, children gain the confidence to explore their potential. And when audiences recognise their work, those young people begin to see a future in Uganda’s creative economy.

The presence of Tatiana’s parents and teacher at the Awards Gala therefore represented something greater than an individual victory. It illustrated the shared responsibility of parents, educators, creative-industry professionals and audiences in raising a generation that is both academically grounded and creatively empowered.

As Pearlwood looks ahead to the 2027 theme, “High School Musical: Reimagining Our Core Values,” this story offers a powerful reminder that family support, education, creativity and cultural values can reinforce one another.

Congratulations, Tatiana Ursula!
